In the next phase of the program, Frequentis will begin delivering its latest voice communication system, the Frequentis X10 VoICE. The company is currently building the first 63 X10 systems, with deliveries scheduled to be completed in early 2027.

The Frequentis digital tower solution, implemented into the newly renovated Digital Tower Operations Center at Bartow airport in summer 2025, required a future-ready communications solution designed specifically for digital operations. Frequentis was selected to deliver a fully digital communications platform to unify voice, recording, and terminal information including weather (ATIS) on one platform, to reduce complexity, modernise legacy infrastructure, increase resilience, and support the airport’s long term innovation goals.

• The first U.S. Department of Defense digital air traffic control tower is now live and in operation at the U.S. Army Garrison Katterbach in Ansbach, Germany
• Frequentis Defense’s contract with the U.S. Army delivers advanced digital tower capability with 4K and thermal cameras, radar integration, and enhanced situational awareness tools

The control room is centrally located, enabling controllers working on different scenarios to be co-located for better collaboration. As a digital solution, the system is enhanced by integrating data from sensors, cameras, and radar to create a 360-degree panoramic out-the-window view with visual and thermal imaging in all weather conditions. By replacing outdated binoculars with advanced pan-tilt-zoom cameras, air traffic controllers can significantly improve their ability to monitor the airspace and airfield, greatly enhancing situational awareness. Additionally, the digital information provided to the controller is recorded for after-action review and training purposes.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded Frequentis a contract to implement the air-to-ground protocol converter system (APCS) for the U.S. National Airspace System, which supports over one billion passengers per year.

Under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) FENS contract Frequentis will work together with Verizon to transition the U.S. National Airspace System (NAS) to a modern IP network.

The NAS supports more than one billion passengers per year. In the FAA’s mission to continue to provide the safest and most efficient aerospace system in the world, the FENS programme will update the FAA’s telecommunications network across the United States. The prime contract was recently awarded to Verizon, with Frequentis supporting all phases of the programme.

“Frequentis is proud to have been selected by Verizon for the important objective of interfacing the FAA’s operational ATM systems to the FENS backbone. Our VCX-IP and NetBroker have been designed for this exact purpose. We are looking forward to supporting Verizon’s FENS team in its evolution of the FAA’s network infrastructure,” says Dieter Eier, President, Frequentis USA. “Under the contract, Frequentis will also supply enterprise services for configuration and network management, along with architecture and integration support.”

The Frequentis Executive Board and the Board of Directors of Frequentis Defense, Inc. (FDI) is pleased to welcome Brian Bruckbauer as its incoming President. Mr. Bruckbauer will join FDI on 1 February 2024, taking over as President effective 1 April 2024.

For the last two years Mr. Bruckbauer served as the President and CEO of the Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA) where he led the organization on a new strategic path to advance airspace integration for all airspace users. Previous to that, he retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Brigadier General in 2021. Mr. Bruckbauer commanded at the Wing, Group, and Squadron levels, was the Senior Military Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, was a Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, and was deployed twice to Afghanistan. In his final position he oversaw all U.S. Air Force foreign military sales as the Director of Air Force Security Assistance and Cooperation, a $226 billion portfolio serving 118 countries. Notable was him becoming the first U.S. Air Force core air traffic control officer to achieve the rank of General Officer.

• Frequentis is replacing existing NASA Voice Conferencing Systems at JSC with the next-generation Voice over IP (VoIP) Conferencing System 
• Using the Frequentis VoIP system, JSC retains the existing operator control keysets providing significant familiarity, material cost savings, and operator re-training
