Air Traffic Management

Digital. Sustainable. Safe.

A prospering aviation industry is an important contributor to economic success. Aviation contributes to 3.5 trillion USD in GDP worldwide, and employs a workforce of 87 million individuals. It enables trade, connect people and makes economies prosper. Building on 75+ years of experience in ATC, Frequentis Air Traffic Management (ATM) helps Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) worldwide deliver safer and more secure capacity for airspace users in a cost-efficient way.

Overview

We enable the digital transformation of ATM

Frequentis has installed around 25,000 ATM operator positions throughout the world and can draw on enormous reserves of project know-how built through numerous international engagements. Around 300+ customers in approximately 150 countries rely on the know-how and experience of Frequentis, ensuring the safety of 95% of the world’s passengers and aircraft.

We supply the autonomous ATM ecosystem for a safer, secure and sustainable world.

Frequentis is leading the way with innovative solutions for traffic synchronisation and collaboration ensuring safety always comes first. This comprises service-based voice, data and recording solutions, ATM-grade networks, virtualised private cloud and IP-based collaboration tools.

Growing the Frequentis group

In 2020, Frequentis acquired a 51 per cent share in ATM automation technology supplier ATRiCS and in 2021 acquired the ATC Solutions business unit and the unit for traffic synchronisation (Orthogon) from L3Harris. These acquisitions extend Frequentis’ technical offering and customer base and add an even broader range of solutions to its extensive ATM portfolio. Frequentis is now a leading provider of traffic synchronisation solutions, both en-route and on the ground with arrival- and departure management products, solutions for dynamic capacity balancing for airports, routing, guidance, and A-SMGCS. These solutions are capable of reducing air traffic controller workload and carbon emissions.

ATM operations

Tower

Frequentis Digital Tower solutions help ANSPs and airport operators manage IFR and VFR operations reliably, safely and efficiently – both on site and remotely. Proven in use around the world, the modular solutions optimise traffic, cut emissions, maximise productivity, and integrate easily with existing technology.

Centre

The PRISMA system for ATM automation supports all air navigation service functions, from pre-flight planning to real-time situational awareness, for both manned and UAS traffic. PRISMA provides automation functions to help ANSPs provide services including approach control, flight information and alerting, ultimately supporting increased safety and efficiency.

UTM

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are now a permanent fixture: their usage is anticipated to grow rapidly in the coming years. As an early responder to the new challenges of rising UAV traffic, Frequentis continues to create innovative solutions that help airports and ANSPs overcome these challenges.

Traffic Sync

Ensuring effective Air Traffic Management operations at and around airports today calls for innovative, perhaps even ground-breaking procedures and decision-support systems. Globally, the ICAO Aviation System Block Upgrades (ASBU) provide an appropriate blueprint. At the European level, the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) programme is blazing a trail for ATM modernisation and greener operations.

Airport Airside

Frequentis airport solutions allow for the most effective collaboration between airports and their partners to achieve airport operational performance objectives. In particular, our portfolio supports local airport collaborative decision-making (A-CDM) as well as the implementation of airport operations control centres (APOC) and airport operations plans (AOP).

Communication

Frequentis is acknowledged as the number one supplier for safety critical communication systems globally. Trusted and proven by more than 25,000 air traffic controllers, and guiding the way to new operational concepts like virtual centres and area control contingency solutions the Frequentis communication solutions set the benchmark among controllers. Virtualisation, cloud-based systems and intelligent networks are the foundation of the modern IT-based ATM technologies.

Data

Digital data transformation is at the heart of the new ATM. Digital data and autonomous systems are the future for managing both the traditional aircraft and the new entrants. Frequentis has been supporting the transition from AIS to AIM for decades and has been providing the very first ATM cloud-based data service as part of the European Aeronautical Database for almost 20 years. The digital revolution of ATM has already started.

Surveillance

Surveillance lies at the heart of air traffic management. Optimised surveillance infrastructure allows routes to be brought closer together resulting in an increase of capacity. Frequentis looks back on a long history of experience with the supply of innovative surveillance solutions. The product portfolio includes ADS-B sensors, multilateration systems, surveillance data distribution and processing systems, trackers and surveillance displays.

Networks

Providing the best results in Air Traffic Management (ATM) communications and keeping aviation passengers safe requires a solution designed for the challenges of a modern air traffic management network. vitalsphere provides a level of safety and end-to-end performance not available from conventional networks. By brokering network capacity between ATM-specific applications and non-ATM specialised backbone networks, vitalsphere reduces total cost of ownership and allows for bandwidth savings of up to 90%.

Digital Platform

With ATM players becoming more and more connected, a shared information space is becoming crucial for safe, secure and efficient operations. The digital age transforms existing, monolithic applications into shared services, enabling backend integration of data and and the same time front-end integration into an integrated controller working position.

Morocco upgrades aeronautical message handling with Frequentis Comsoft

The Moroccan Airports Authority, ONDA (Office National Des Aéroports), entrusted Frequentis Comsoft with the upgrade of their message handling and switching capability in line with latest ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) basic and extended AMHS (ATS Message Handling System) service profiles.

Thanks to its strategic location, Morocco is an important hub for air traffic flows between many regions of the world. The continuous and secure flow of aeronautical messages is crucial to safe air traffic management, which is why upgrades to new standards and the implementation of new features are vital in preparing ONDA for the future demands and challenges of its airspace.

“Frequentis Comsoft successfully upgraded our message handling system, smoothly, ahead of schedule and with no interruption to normal operation, despite COVID restrictions. The upgrade enables us to further support the increasing demands of our service, both now and in the future.” said Bartal Said, Information Processing Division Manager, ONDA.
