Search and Rescue

In an emergency, operators must act fast and with precision during complex and data-intensive situations. The Search and Rescue solution helps operators by giving them precisely the information and workflow support they need via an intuitive, highly graphical interface. As a result, operators can make the right decisions rapidly and efficiently, backed by integrated GMDSS-compliant operations.

Explore further

The first few minutes in an emergency scenario are critical to the final outcome. In order to save lives, search and rescue operators must extract a clear view of the incident from the initial uncertainty and then use established collaborative workflows to take and manage appropriate actions. In most search and rescue control centres, diverse and siloed systems are a drain on efficiency and agility. Highly skilled operators – who have the optimal workflows in their heads – are forced to spend time and effort executing these workflows through inflexible tools. To empower operators to work effectively on their own, with local team members or with remote collaborators – including other organisations – control centre solutions should deliver a concise operational picture as soon as possible. They should also apply workflows without rigidly enforcing them, enabling operators to focus entirely on making timely decisions. The Search and Rescue solution addresses these challenges, providing consistent, fully integrated, dedicated systems that offer context-sensitive information and intelligent assistance to search and rescue operators via intuitive graphical user interfaces.

Workflow clarity and control for operators

By offering operators flexible workflow support, this solution allows them to focus on life-saving operations rather than managing diverse systems. Designed for deep at-a-glance understanding, the streamlined graphical screens bring the right information and tools to the user at the right time.

Keeping the operator in the driver’s seat

In many search and rescue control centres the proliferation of complicated and disconnected systems can make operators feel that their primary task is to serve the machines. The Frequentis solution is designed from the ground up to serve the operator – not vice versa. Dynamic operational assistance adapts the tools and menus according to context, putting the most likely options at the operator´s fingertips for fast and efficient decision-making.

Seamlessly integrated visual workflow

Turning data into actionable knowledge in an emergency situation, the solution presents the necessary information in a visually intuitive interface that is consistent and context-sensitive across all modules. Incoming and outgoing voice and data feeds are seamlessly converged to enable fast, clear communications at the click of a mouse. The solution offers various interfaces to cover the demands of today’s modes of communication. Selected information can be shared via social media channels to inform or to collaborate with the public.

When lives are on the line, the MarTRX Incident and Crisis Management (ICM), developed together with CNS Solutions, member of the Frequentis Group, offers the ideal support for simple, safe and effective incident management. The system centralises and organises your management procedures, enhancing the quality of incident management by accelerating alert, response and communication processes.

Coastal Surveillance

Global developments have created new hazards, leading to fundamental changes in security requirements. Coastal regions are especially vulnerable to threats coming from the sea and require a higher degree of surveillance. Coastal countries have a growing interest in boosting safety and security as they control and protect their maritime domains. Information and communication must work seamlessly to face the challenges of modern-day maritime economy. A coastal surveillance system (CSS) gives a country the necessary survey, control and communication tools within its territorial waters and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Maritime Communication System (MCS) for Coastal Surveillance Solutions (CSS)

The solution focuses on highly-integrated systems that use native network capabilities to enable national or international information and communication networks for coastal surveillance systems.

The Frequentis MCS CSS is based on the standardised MCS 3020 product family and is equipped with specialised functions and capabilities suited to the needs of CSS environments. Multi-centre and multi-base station design is the most important factor underpinning optimal MCS CSS functionality. The system also supports almost infinite voice resources. Each part of the system and each application (DSC, NAVTEX, radio remote control) is built for network usage.

A CSS uses different information layers: the sensor layer (inputs from such sources as RADAR, AIS, and optical or infrared devices), the network layer (an integrated backbone network) and the communication layer (an integrated platform for all communication technologies).

Port Authorities / VTS

Sea transport is the largest means of global goods exchange, with over 90% of world trade carried by the international shipping industry. Accordingly, maritime operations are of enormous economic importance and ports worldwide play a vital role in the value chain. However, the maritime economy is highly competitive and not all ports generate large revenues. Safety, efficiency and security become key factors on the path to financial success. To achieve these goals, highly capable systems are required.

The port is a gateway to the world. Today, major ports are more than just mooring and berthing facilities for vessels to load and unload passengers and cargo; they are highly-complex logistics centres with robust infrastructures. Although the local distribution area is limited, there is a growing demand for integrating many different information and communication technologies within one port communication platform.

Small and local, but by no means old-fashioned

A modern, international sea or inland port typically focuses on local and internal communication needs and uses the latest communication technologies, such as VoIP, and state-of-the-art network equipment. Increased efficiency is provided by the use of an all-digital and fully integrated information platform, which can be accessed from any operator position, be it local or remote. A variety of sensors, such as radars, AIS stations, and communication radios, ensure that information is easily accessible, precise, and delivered in real time. In order to secure the highest possible system performance while keeping the upgrade and maintenance activity as efficient as possible, the system architecture incorporates state-of-the-art technologies, based on a modular design and open standards.

Coastal Radio

Current communication needs are greater than ever before. On land, technologies such as mobile phones and the Internet are staples of modern-day voice and data exchange. But the environment mariners live and work in is quite different. The range and coverage of telecommunication technologies is limited to near the shore and the satellite solutions that are available to provide longer reach are prohibitively expensive for daily tasks. This is why mariners are forced to rely on conventional communication technologies, such as VHF, HF and MF.

Explore further

Powerful, nationwide control centre solutions for coastal radio and GMDSS systems, which combine numerous required GMDSS (such as DSC, NAVTEX, and MSI) and customer-tailored services in an intuitive and integrated way are the answer to these challenges. Thanks to their architecture, the solutions can be integrated into existing surroundings and cover multi-site scenarios, including mobile solutions. The very latest radio technology is connected to a highly-reliable communication centre, which forms a hub – allowing access to all the resources of a coastal radio network from one single point. Full remote control, monitoring and maintenance capabilities are concentrated in one location or in as many centres as needed. This technology provides the ideal communication and information solution for coastal radio environments, opening new horizons to provide maritime communication without limits.
