FREQUENTIS strengthens Norway’s maritime safety as Kystverket takes control of coastal radio

  • Frequentis supports Kystverket’s takeover of national coastal radio infrastructure from Telenor
  • The transition gives Norway full sovereign control over critical maritime communications supporting emergency response and national preparedness
  • The system covers 150 sites and nearly 500 radio units, safeguarding communications for 42,000 Norwegian-licensed vessels plus additional foreign vessels in Norwegian waters
  • Direct collaboration between Kystverket and Frequentis enables operational alignment and future system development

Frequentis has supported the successful transition of Norway’s national coastal radio service to Kystverket, a Norwegian government agency responsible for the water transport infrastructure along the 9,200-kilometre coast of Norway. This transition represents a significant step toward bringing critical maritime communication infrastructure fully under state ownership.
