FREQUENTIS wins ICCA award for world-first mission-critical services client platform

  • Frequentis’ MissionX Android SDK solution has been recognised as “Best MCX Product or Solution of the Year” at the International Critical Communications Awards 2025
  • The platform, enabling reliable broadband for emergency services, is the first of its kind certified by the Global Certification Forum

The award, presented during Critical Communications World 2025 in Brussels, recognises outstanding innovation in the deployment of 3GPP-based broadband communication for mission-critical users. Frequentis’ submission was selected from over 50 entries, with 14 finalists shortlisted in the category. The platforms’ successful certification in June 2024 marked a major milestone for the entire mission-critical communication community, proving that global conformance standards for client platforms can be achieved and implemented in the field.

“This achievement reflects the long-standing commitment of Frequentis to driving forward open standards and supporting the global shift to mission-critical broadband,” says Charlotte Roesener, Director Mission Critical Services at Frequentis. “Being the first to receive GCF certification for an MCS client platform is a historic moment - and having this recognised by the ICCA reinforces the value this brings to the broader community.”

FREQUENTIS installs first digital tower for U.S. Department of Defense

  • The first U.S. Department of Defense digital air traffic control tower is now live and in operation at the U.S. Army Garrison Katterbach in Ansbach, Germany
  • Frequentis Defense’s contract with the U.S. Army delivers advanced digital tower capability with 4K and thermal cameras, radar integration, and enhanced situational awareness tools

The control room is centrally located, enabling controllers working on different scenarios to be co-located for better collaboration. As a digital solution, the system is enhanced by integrating data from sensors, cameras, and radar to create a 360-degree panoramic out-the-window view with visual and thermal imaging in all weather conditions. By replacing outdated binoculars with advanced pan-tilt-zoom cameras, air traffic controllers can significantly improve their ability to monitor the airspace and airfield, greatly enhancing situational awareness. Additionally, the digital information provided to the controller is recorded for after-action review and training purposes.

“Our partnership with the U.S. Army and the success of the digital tower installation at Katterbach are essential to demonstrating the operational feasibility of the digital tower for complex U.S. Army operations,” says Brian Bruckbauer, President, Frequentis Defense. “We are incredibly proud of our team for completing this first-of-its-kind program, and we’re excited about the upcoming DoD contracts we’ll be signing this year.”
