Mission Critical Services

Saves. Protects. Connects.

Mission-critical communication is evolving. Organisations today need richer, more flexible ways to communicate in critical situations, moving from voice-only radio systems to secure, prioritised multimedia over broadband. Mission Critical Services (MCX) bring voice, video and data together on 4G and 5G networks, enabling real-time information sharing and better decision-making when it matters most. Frequentis MissionX delivers a standards-based, open MCX ecosystem that connects field users, control rooms and organisations seamlessly and securely across borders, networks and vendors.

MissionX World: One MCX ecosystem

Built on global 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards, MissionX operates across public, private and hybrid 4G and 5G networks to ensure reliable, prioritised communication even in the most demanding situations. Designed for public safety, transport, maritime, defence, and critical infrastructure, it supports a smooth, low-risk transition from legacy systems such as TETRA, P25, DMR, and GSM-R to modern multimedia communication. By enabling secure multimedia communications across 4G and 5G environments, MissionX enhances situational awareness and coordination, enabling seamless collaboration and supporting timely decision-making in mission-critical operations.

Discover MissionX

MissionX is a secure, standards-based communication portfolio that integrates voice, video and data. It enables teams to share live information, coordinate seamlessly and respond faster in critical situations. By breaking down communication silos, MissionX allows responders and control room operators to collaborate as a single team across agencies, devices and operational environments.

Ecosystem

Our 3GPP-compliant MCX servers form the backbone of next-generation mission-critical communications, combining voice, video and data into one reliable, prioritised service.  They provide secure, high-availability communication over 4G/5G networks and give mission-critical users priority access, even in congested environments, ensuring uninterrupted communication when it matters most.

MissionX mobile clients and software development kits (SDKs) provide real-time multimedia communication in the field, empowering users to share voice, video, data and location information seamlessly. This allows first responders and operational teams to access richer information, stay connected across environments and make better decisions more quickly in critical situations.

MissionX seamlessly integrates with Frequentis' control room solutions, unifying voice, video and data into a single operational view.  This gives dispatchers and operators enhanced situational awareness through real-time information sharing, enabling them to coordinate with field teams more quickly and make more effective decisions in complex situations.

Frequentis' GuardX securely captures, stores and makes available all mission-critical communications, including voice, video and data. This enables review, compliance and continuous operational improvement on a unified recording platform designed for safety-critical environments.

MissionX is more than just a product portfolio; it is an open ecosystem of partners, integrators, and technology providers. This openness enables interoperability across systems and organisations, allowing customers to integrate, adapt and evolve their mission-critical communications environment without being locked in by a particular vendor.

Our approach to 3GPP-conformant Mission Critical Services (MCX)

Built for today’s operations, and tomorrow’s missions
Actively shaping MCX standards for over a decade
Open by design – interoperable by nature
Investment security for the coming decades
Mission critical focus makes the difference
From legacy to MCX – safety and efficiently

MissionX brings together devices, applications, networks and control rooms within a single, integrated MCX framework, providing secure, high-priority communication for voice, video and data.

From the very beginning of MCX standardisation, Frequentis has actively shaped the industry. With more than 10 years of MCX experience, participation in all major plug tests from the outset, and active contribution to global 3GPP standards, MissionX is designed to work not only in theory, but proven in real, multi-vendor environments.

Designed to meet global standards, MissionX enables true interoperability across organisations, systems and borders, supporting flexible, forward-looking operations.

Mission critical communication requires a long-term commitment. Built on global 3GPP standards, MissionX provides a future-ready, open ecosystem that evolves alongside operational requirements while safeguarding existing investments.

By enabling interoperability and continuous innovation, from 4G and 5G to future technologies, MissionX allows organisations to adapt, scale up and move forward with confidence in a rapidly changing environment.

Backed by nearly 80 years of expertise in safety-critical control rooms, Frequentis is deeply rooted in mission critical domains. Decades of experience in public safety, defence, railways and critical infrastructure ensure that MissionX is developed with operational realities in mind, not adapted from enterprise or consumer solutions. This domain understanding enables functional differentiation that matters in real world operations.

MissionX enables a gradual, low-risk transition from legacy communication technologies to a fully interoperable MCX environment, ensuring operational continuity and unlocking new capabilities.

FREQUENTIS wins ICCA award for world-first mission-critical services client platform

  • Frequentis’ MissionX Android SDK solution has been recognised as “Best MCX Product or Solution of the Year” at the International Critical Communications Awards 2025
  • The platform, enabling reliable broadband for emergency services, is the first of its kind certified by the Global Certification Forum

The award, presented during Critical Communications World 2025 in Brussels, recognises outstanding innovation in the deployment of 3GPP-based broadband communication for mission-critical users. Frequentis’ submission was selected from over 50 entries, with 14 finalists shortlisted in the category. The platforms’ successful certification in June 2024 marked a major milestone for the entire mission-critical communication community, proving that global conformance standards for client platforms can be achieved and implemented in the field.

“This achievement reflects the long-standing commitment of Frequentis to driving forward open standards and supporting the global shift to mission-critical broadband,” says Charlotte Roesener, Director Mission Critical Services at Frequentis. “Being the first to receive GCF certification for an MCS client platform is a historic moment - and having this recognised by the ICCA reinforces the value this brings to the broader community.”

FREQUENTIS becomes the first in Germany to implement prioritised safety-critical BOS broadband communications on public mobile networks

                                                                                                                                                                                      (c) Vodafone

  • Important milestone for the introduction of future digital broadband communications for authorities and organisations with security tasks (BOS)
  • This is based on the 3GPP-standardised Mission Critical Services (MCX) implemented by Frequentis
  • Testing of a research object from Frequentis from the KoPa_45 project

Frequentis has become the first company in Germany to implement the prioritised transmission of safety-critical operational communications of authorities and organisations with security tasks (BOS) in a public MCX-ready mobile network. This innovative solution was developed in collaboration with Vodafone and presented for the first time on 2/3 April at the trade fair GPEC digital 2025 (General Police Equipment Exhibition & Conference) in Leipzig.

“The implementation of this technological development once again demonstrates Frequentis' innovative capability and the resulting success. In this way, we are supporting the future-proof sovereignty of the communication and operational capability of authorities and organisations with security tasks decided by the BDBOS,” says Marcel Haar, Managing Director Frequentis Germany.
