“HANDS TO THE SOIL, HEARTS TO THE FARMERS” – AIRNAV OUTREACH PROGRAMME

Every year, Airnav Technology Services Inc., a company of the Frequentis Group based in Iloilo City (Philippines), organises an outreach programme to support disadvantaged communities.

In 2025, the programme took place in the vast rice fields of Iloilo. With rice seedlings in hand and plenty of motivation, the AirNav engineers experienced first-hand just how much discipline, patience and physical strength are required in the early stages of food production. Under the motto “Hands in the soil, hearts with the farmers”, the programme aimed to raise awareness of the importance of agriculture and to foster exchange between our company and the local community.

The AirNav team’s participation in the rice planting activities not only deepened their understanding of the challenges facing agriculture but also underlined Frequentis’ commitment to socially relevant initiatives.

Our video provides an in-depth look at the initiative in Iloilo.

Frequentis is committed to the circular economy

Frequentis is consistently leading the way in sustainability: throughout the entire value chain – from the selection of materials and processing in production right through to recyclability – the responsible use of resources is a key priority.

The circular economy is therefore a central component of the Frequentis sustainability strategy. The aim is to manufacture products in a resource-efficient manner and return them to the cycle at the end of their useful life. Group-wide efforts are underway to design business processes in a resource-efficient manner and in line with the principles of a genuine circular economy.

EVERY CONTRIBUTION COUNTS: NOTEBOOK DONATION FOR AN NGO IN SIERRA LEONE

The mindset of Frequentis employees is shaped by responsibility, helpfulness, and the desire to create a positive impact beyond their own workplace. A prime example of this is the initiative of a colleague, whose suggestion led to ten used laptops finding their way to an NGO in Sierra Leone (West Africa).

As part of the “Safer Future Youth Development Programme,” the laptops are being used in various environmental projects as well as in training and education initiatives. Through this, Frequentis is helping to create new opportunities on the ground: access to education, digital skills, and new perspectives for young people.

SUCCESSFUL PILOT PROJECT WITH RESPONSIBLE ANNOTATION SERVICES

How can remote towers be made even safer? That was the central question of the SAFER (Smart Assistance for Enhanced Remote Tower) research project. The aim was to use an AI model to improve object recognition and tracking in order to further increase aviation safety.

In this joint project between the Frequentis ATM Tower R&D team and Graz University of Technology, the collaboration with the Austrian start-up Responsible Annotation Services proved to be highly successful. The company specialises in data annotation and deliberately relies on a neurodiverse team. An approach that is not only inclusive but also highly accurate.

After just three months, the research project was successfully completed. The new AI model significantly outperformed comparable approaches – performance increased noticeably. Another key result was a detailed manual that ensures the consistency and traceability of data annotation.

‘With SAFER, we have shown how technological innovation and social responsibility can go hand in hand,’ says Karl Wannenmacher, Chief Technology Officer at Frequentis. ‘The combination of AI expertise and an inclusive approach is a win-win for everyone involved.’
