DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung, Germany
            Keeping Germany’s skies safe

DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung ensures the safety and efficiency of one of Europe’s busiest and most complex airspaces. Every day, thousands of aircraft are guided safely through German skies, supported by highly coordinated systems, people, and technologies.
Reliable surveillance data is the foundation of safe air traffic management. It provides the real-time situational awareness that controllers rely on to make split-second decisions. From radar sensors to automation systems, every data point must be precise, consistent, and instantly available.
This calls for an infrastructure built from the ground up to be ATM-grade: deterministic, ultra-low latency, always available, and ready to evolve. Because when every second counts and every data packet matters, generic enterprise networks will not suffice.
The ATM-Grade Network is an intelligent fabric in which the surveillance data distribution layer, powered by Surveillance Data Distribution Data System – Next Generation (SDDS-NG), plays a pivotal role. From radar and ADS-B sensors through complex filtering, routing, and conversion, to the automation screens of controllers, data must arrive instantly, correctly, and securely.
DFS partnered with Frequentis to bring this vision to life. Based on SDDS-NG DFS has set up and is operating a redundant surveillance network that meets the dynamic demands of German airspace: high traffic volumes, complex sensor ecosystems, distributed control centres, and stringent regulatory requirements.
This is more than just technology, it is the DFS blueprint for the future, setting standards for other regions and countries.
