Connectivity Suite
Seamlessly connecting legacy and next‑generation radio technologies
Within our Connectivity Suite we provide a seamless connection between legacy and next-generation radio technologies, unifying communication environments. Enabling secure, highly available interoperability between analogue radio, TETRA, P25 and MCX, they allow control rooms to efficiently manage mixed infrastructures while supporting a smooth transition to broadband mission-critical communications.
Connecting mixed radio environments in public safety operations
Public safety organisations often use several radio technologies simultaneously, including legacy analogue systems, digital narrowband radio and emerging broadband MCX services. Ensuring interoperability between these systems is crucial, especially during lengthy transition periods when reliability, availability and operational continuity must not be compromised. The Frequentis' Connectivity Suite addresses this challenge by providing a technology-agnostic, unified integration layer for mission-critical radio communications. It provides the link between control room operations and field communications networks. Our portfolio enables seamless interoperability and unified communications, facilitating a smooth transition from legacy systems to future-ready, mission-critical operations through the integration of various radio technologies, including TETRA and next-generation broadband.
Unified Radio Gateway as the foundation for interoperability
At the heart of this approach lies the Unified Radio Gateway (URG), which connects directly to various radio networks and vendors, unifying them into a single, standardised interface for the control room. Designed with open interfaces, high availability, and modular redundancy, the URG supports multiple radio technologies, including analogue radio, P25, and MCX. These features ensure reliable operation while optimising resource usage through pooling and concentrator functions. Frequentis enables public safety organisations to integrate existing radio infrastructure into a unified control room environment. Through the URG, radio communications can be connected to our communication systems and handled alongside telephony and digital communication channels. This approach helps organisations support current radio systems while preparing for the adoption of IP-based and mission-critical broadband services such as MCX. The result is a more flexible communications environment that supports operational continuity and gradual transition.
Backbone patching for scalable, many‑to‑many radio integration
Frequentis uses a patching backbone methodology beyond individual gateways to enable dynamic, many-to-many interconnection between radio systems. Rather than relying on complex point-to-point bridges, all radio channels and talk groups connect to a shared backbone. This approach simplifies management, reduces operational risk and enables patches to be configured in advance or dynamically during live operations without disrupting the service.
Seamless control room operations across technologies
For control room operators, simplification means being able to communicate seamlessly across technologies using a single user interface, without needing to understand the underlying radio systems. Centralised security, access control and recording ensure consistent and secure management of all communications, including MCX multimedia traffic. By extending the usable life of existing infrastructure and enabling the gradual adoption of broadband services, Frequentis Connectivity Suite provides a foundation that is both future-proof and capable of supporting resilient, interoperable emergency communications.
