ISAVIA and FREQUENTIS explore extreme weather remote tower solutions

Technology partnership between Isavia and Frequentis explores remote tower in sub-zero temperatures to benefit isolated airfields.

The Icelandic Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP), Isavia, and Frequentis formed a technology partnership in 2017 to investigate suitable remote tower camera and casing solutions that would be effective in Icelandic weather conditions. The ongoing partnership is analysing the benefits this solution will have for isolated airports, by enabling ATS to be carried out from a centrally located facility.

In regions where smaller, low traffic volume airfields are at risk of closure, the remote tower concept allows ATC operations to be located at an easily accessible site, reducing the level of onsite staffing required.

Frequentis to replace existing IAA VCS systems and modernise IAA’s voice communication and control capabilities

Driven by the need to replace the existing VCS systems as well as manage increasing airspace demand, IAA selected Frequentis VCS3020X for all terminal and En-route control centres and selected air traffic control towers following a competitively tendered procurement process.

FREQUENTIS and PANSA sign Memorandum of Cooperation on future exploration of data-driven airports

At World ATM Congress in Madrid, Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA) and Frequentis signed an agreement to explore concepts, technologies and architectures to capture and integrate data around aerodromes. The first step is the joint development of a technical demonstrator, marking  a milestone in the creation of next level data-driven communication systems in the tower and airport environment.

World’s first cross-border emergency communication network in operation in Norway and Sweden

Norway and Sweden have become the first two countries in the world to connect their national emergency communication networks. The Frequentis control room communication solution allows all Norwegian emergency centres to seamlessly manage both domestic and foreign resources on the Norwegian public safety network, Nødnett. Sweden and Norway share a 1,619-kilometer open border. The Norwegian air ambulances faced particular challenges when dealing with ski incidents on the Swedish side of the Scandinavian mountains, often losing network coverage.
