Total conversation
From voice calls to accessible, multimedia emergency communication
Driven by European accessibility legislation and supported by Next Generation 112 (NG112), Total Conversation enables citizens to reach emergency services using voice, Real-Time Text (RTT), video and precise location data. It extends emergency access beyond voice calls, helping ensure more equal access for all, including people with disabilities and those who are unable to speak in critical situations. Frequentis helps public safety organisations implement and deliver Total Conversation in a standards-based, future-proof way, transforming compliance into tangible operational and societal value.
Legislation driving the shift to multimedia emergency communication
Legislative initiatives such as the European Accessibility Act are reshaping how emergency services must interact with the public across Europe. NG112 is the technological response to these requirements, facilitating the transition from voice-only emergency calls to multimedia communication, including voice, RTT, video and accurate, device-based location information.
Ensuring equal access in critical situations
Frequentis Public Safety supports accessibility legislation through its portfolio of solutions for next-generation emergency communications: 3020 LifeX™, ASGARD and FlagMii® EML. Together, these solutions support voice, real-time text, video, location data and multimedia collaboration across the control room and broader incident workflows. This helps public safety organisations introduce accessible multimedia communication in a way that fits operational needs and existing workflows.
Real-Time-Text (RTT) as a core enabler of NG112
RTT plays a central role within Total Conversation, and particularly NG112. Unlike SMS or chat applications, RTT transmits characters instantly as they are typed, delivering them as a carrier-grade service. Callers and call-takers can communicate via text and voice simultaneously, enabling faster clarification and improved situational awareness in time-critical scenarios. As RTT is natively supported by Android and iOS devices, citizens can use it directly from their smartphone dialler without the need to download or maintain any additional apps.
Standards‑based NG112 implementation with Frequentis
Frequentis enables NG112 through a fully standards-based approach, supporting interoperable ecosystems, secure IP-based routing and seamless integration into existing control room workflows. This approach protects investments, avoids vendor lock-in and establishes a foundation for future capabilities, by combining audio, RTT and video in a single session. This further strengthens accessibility, inclusion and operational effectiveness in emergency communication.
