VCS 3020X – En Route and Terminal Voice Switch

The Voice Communication System 3020X (VCS 3020X) is an integrated voice and data switch for radio, telephone, and intercom in a modular and scalable architecture. It has unlimited conferencing capabilities and provides operator access to all communication channels at all times, regardless of the current system load.

For over ten years, the VCS 3020X product line has been deployed in small and large ATC facilities around the world. Rather than develop a new system every few years, Frequentis follows a product migration strategy. As a result, we have evolved the VCS 3020X into the most modern and most reliable ATC communications system in the world. For example, the “latest” communications technology – Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) – has been a standard feature of the VCS 3020X for many years.

Frequentis understands the critical nature of the voice communications service needed by our ATC customers. We do not incorporate any new technology into our products without first shaping that technology to fit seamlessly into the ATC application.

Frequentis is actively involved in the EUROCAE WG67 standardization committee responsible for developing a global standard for VoIP in air traffic management. As a result of these activities, the VCS 3020X has built-in support for the latest EUROCAE VoIP standard, which covers the use of IP infrastructures to connect to ATC radios and VoIP-capable ATC telephone services. This feature combines the cost savings and flexibility of VoIP with the unsurpassed reliability of traditional radio and telephone services over analog and digital circuits.

The success of the VCS 3020X is built on three foundations:

  • Decentralized switching for maximum resilience
  • Duplication & parallel operation ensures no single point of failure
  • Modular design for scalability: supporting one-operator systems or those with over 1,000

 Designed to fit

Thanks to its scalable, modular design, the VCS 3020X fits all and any kinds of air traffic management facilities. These range from large-scale ATM environments, such as en route or air traffic control centers (ARTCCs), to terminal radar approach control (TRACON) facilities and air traffic control towers (ATCT).
