Study - MA-AFAS
The More Autonomous Aircraft in the Future ATM System (MA-AFAS) 5th Framework EC project is leaded by BAE SYSTEMS/UK and supported by 18 other European companies. The main project goal is to develop an Operational Concept (OC) that would fit into Europeans future ATM concept, as well as corresponding avionics package that would allow for more autonomous aircraft operation within the European airspace.
The particular issues tackled by MA-AFAS - CDTI/ASAS, 4D flight path generation and guidance, SBAS/GBAS precision approaches, advanced TAXI management, airline communications - are enabled by air-ground and air-air data links. Frequentis has contributed to the MA-AFAS OC, functional specification, selection of Cost-Benefit-Analysis metrics and is responsible for co-ordination of the ground communications facilities for MA-AFAS simulation efforts and flight trials. Together with BAE SYSTEMS, Frequentis has also provided the "TAXI and ATC Tool" (TAT), a controller's HMI (Human Machine Interface) for CPDLC (Controller Pilot Data Link Communication) and advanced TAXI communications services.
