Project - NEXCOM

Next Generation Communication

NEXCOM is FAA's future (2009+) digital A/G communications system based on the VDL Mode 3. It shall replace current analog voice communications and provide high performance data link to be used for CPDLC (Controller Pilot Data Link) and other ATM communications services.

NEXCOM requires VDL Mode 3 capable radios and a dedicated ground infrastructure (GNI, RIU). In 2002, Frequentis has developed an efficient GNI and RIU concept based on the combination of existing VDS 6000 system hardware for the voice functions and several COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) workstations covering the NEXCOM data functionality.
