REFERENCES IN THE PUBLIC TRANSPORT MARKET

Since 1996, Frequentis is a renowned manufacturer of communication equipment for municipal public transport and railways. Major references in this respect are the delivery of an operations telecommunication system for Network Rail (UK) and of GSM-R dispatcher equipment for the Deutsche Bahn (Germany).

The delivery of GSM-R equipment for the Finnish Rail Administration RHK is another major contract for Frequentis. It underlines the company's position as a leading supplier of Fixed Terminal Systems for GSM-R.

German Railways GSM-R
Deutsche Bahn (DB) AG has selected the consortium of Nortel Networks and Frequentis to supply switching technology and dispatcher terminals to enable the operational use of the GSM-R radio communications network.

For the first countrywide GSM-R Dispatcher implementation on a European railway, the German Railways have decided to go with the highly sophisticated GSM-R Dispatcher Series DICORA by Frequentis. The ability to fulfil the most stringent safety requirements, as well as the excellent usability, counted as decisive arguments for Frequentis.

Public Transport Vienna
When the Wiener Linien, the public transport authority of Vienna, designed its new Public Transport Dispatching and Control Centre, Frequentis was the choice supplier of the communication system.

The redundant and fail-safe Frequentis communication system controls an analog radio network, which provides voice and data channels to the vehicles. Particular attention has been paid to the interface to the Computer Aided Dispatch system.

The Central Command Post and the Underground Command Post handle up to 3,000 inquiries and operations daily. All incidents, accidents, emergency calls and also all bus and tram passenger information are routed via this system.

Public Transport Berlin
The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), the public transport authority of Berlin, has introduced a new strategy to improve service and security for their passengers. To this end, a central operational unit, the control centre service and security, has been put in place.

A core element of this control centre is a command control communication system by Frequentis.

The completely redundant design of this communication system features several remote working positions and provides the command centre dispatchers with extended functionality and integrated access to radio and telephone media. A strong interface for interaction with the IT-environment was a prerequisite.

Finnish Rail Administration GSM-R
The Finnish Rail Administrations (RHK) GSM-R project foresees a rollout of a GSM-R network covering all main rail tracks in Finland, a network of about 6,000 km. Ratahallintokeskus (RHK) made it their business to develop this network into an efficient means of transport.

Siemens Osakeyhtiö is the prime contractor responsible for delivering the complete network. Frequentis has been selected as the subcontractor partner to deliver a complete GSM-R Fixed Terminal System, including GSM-R dispatcher terminals and the fixed network switching infrastructure, including interfaces to the existing analog radio and PA-system. In total, six train control centres are to be equipped.

Network Rail GSM-R
Network Rail, the provider of the British Railway infrastructure, has selected Frequentis to deliver a countrywide GSM-R Fixed Terminal System, including GSM-R dispatcher terminals and the fixed network switching infrastructure. State-of-the-art features have to be implemented. For instance train location data will be processed to feature enhanced Location Dependant Addressing (eLDA).

The British GSM-R rollout will include the majority of the British rail network. It will provide British train operators with one of the most modern operations communication infrastructures in the world.

Frequentis is in charge of designing and equipping the entire fixed terminal network and is responsible for providing end-to-end functionality from dispatcher to cab-radio. In total, more than 900 signalmen working positions are to be equipped.

Network Rail NMC
The West Coast Mainline (WCML) is one of Europe's busiest railroads. Network Rail had introduced an ambitious modernisation program to increase capacity and safety on the WCML.

Union Switch & Signal (US&S) specialists entrusted Frequentis with the design of the voice- & telecommunications sub-system for the British Network Rail control centre NMC (Network Management Centre).

Swiss Federal Railways GSM-R
The first Frequentis railways order in Switzerland comprises the supply of a GSM-R Fixed Terminal System (FTS) for the Swiss Federal Railways SBB on the stretch of railway known as "Neubaustrecke".

Frequentis delivered highly sophisticated GSM-R dispatcher terminals of the series DICORA-S and the central Ground Switching System (GSC) with redundant switch architecture. The technical solution of the GSM-R FTS ensures a homogeneous transition into the next generation of digital rail communication standards at the SBB.

Public Transport Klagenfurt
For the Klagenfurter Verkehrbetriebe, the public transport authority of Carinthia's capital, Frequentis designed and implemented a TETRA digital trunked radio system. It comprises an integrated communication solution covering local utilities, public transport and shipping.

Indian Eastern Railways GSM-R
At the Eastern Railways pilot installation, Nortel Networks has selected Frequentis to supply the GSM-R Fixed Terminal System (FTS).

Swiss Federal Railways BTA 3. Etappe
Swiss Federal Railways SBB has selected Frequentis as the supplier for the new operational telecommunication system (Betriebstelekommunikation) with GSM-R functionality.

Swiss Federal Railways DERI
The Swiss Federal Railways SBB has selected Frequentis as supplier for the an innovative process-plattform. The implementation of a swiss-wide alarm- and defectsmanagementsystem within the infrastructure division is the an important step for ensuring the train-punctuality.
