RADIO SHUNTING

In shunting, it is currently common practice that shunting personnel requests the train controller to switch the points for the required tracks. The train controller has an IT-supported workstation that allows him to make these individual tracks available. In a co-operation with Alcatel, Frequentis has recently developed a system to simplify this task for the controller. Alcatel contributed important know-how concerning point switching technology.

Shunting personnel can enter the track of origin and the target track via a mobile input control unit in which an intelligent menu only offers valid choices. The control unit can easily be connected to existing radio systems. It transmits coded data to the radio base station using a voice channel. An additional computer (implemented using the DIVOS platform) recognises the instructions and transmits the decoded signals as a control command to the Alcatel ELEKTRA system, which then switches the points.

The advantages at a glance
  • connection to an existing system, independent of the radio technology in use (GSM, GSM-R, analog or digital voice radio)
  • ergonomic and simple operations
  • robust entry unit (control possible even while wearing gloves)
