ATIS system with audio-response unit: German ATC authority (DFS) orders five systems
October 2002: At the beginning of September 2002, Frequentis received a contract from the German Air Traffic Service Provider (Deutsche Flugsicherung, DFS) for five ATIS systems. ATIS stands for "Automatic Terminal Information Service"; a system such as those used in every large control tower. It continually sends non-ATC specific information which is generated with the help of synthetic speech generation. Thus controllers are spared the task of doing routine work.
