EAD – Five Successful Years of Operations!
In June 2008, European AIS Database (EAD) Service was celebrating five successful years of operations. Operational since June 2003, the EAD is an online Aeronautical Information Services database that delivers coherent, quality-assured aeronautical information to States, air navigation service providers and airspace users.
Manage Airspace
The EAD system which was developed and implemented by Frequentis gives more than 39 countries and over 39,000 users the opportunity to manage the current state of global airspace and to send this information to the pilots in a targeted manner. Frequentis provides for the EAD service the core application and is responsible for overall technical operation on behalf of EUROCONTROL.
When EAD was launched, all States in Europe maintained and updated their own individual record of pan-European aeronautical information. In effect, it meant that all States were carrying out the same task, maintaining a database of the same information. Today, after five years of operation of EAD, more and more States are contributing to the database, and 75% of participating States maintain their aeronautical information directly in the database for the benefit of the continually growing number of recognised professional Data Users (80 today).
The success of EAD is further underlined by the growing interest from outside of the European Civil Aviation Conference ECAC area, with many Data Users and the first non-ECAC Data Providers connecting to the database.
Frequentis is proud of the fact that the EAD system is based on a FR-AIS system: built, maintained and IT operated by Frequentis. 24x7x365 days per year for the European and worldwide ATM. More and more international clients outside the European area are interested to get the benefits of this superior system.
