EAD Service Provision

EUROCONTROL, the European authority being responsible for the security of the entire European airspace, provides the EAD service for its member nations and their customers – airlines and private pilots – on the basis of the air traffic control information system developed by Frequentis. Operational since June 2003, the EAD is an online Aeronautical Information Services database that delivers coherent, quality-assured aeronautical information to States, air navigation service providers and airspace users.
The service includes the maintenance, correction and validation of data by the aeronautical data experts of European air-traffic control authorities and EUROCONTROL, which outsources parts of the operations and IT services such as server operation and help desks for member nations to subcontractors.
The system developed and implemented by Frequentis was designed for 38 countries and serves currently more than 36,000 users. Frequentis provides for the EAD service the core application and is responsible for overall technological operation on behalf of EUROCONTROL.
