Safety Management
The world’s growing complexity means that, now more than ever, a series of minor errors can lead to an accident. Or, put differently: we can control our choices regarding particular actions, but we cannot control the consequences of our choices. This means that it is impossible to predict the behaviour of the complex interactions between human operators, procedures and technical systems using traditional methods.
The first step in understanding the entity formed by a system and procedures is to create a model as a basis for analysing system safety. The scientific discipline that has emerged from this challenge – of predicting the behaviour of complex systems – is called safety management.
SAFETY MANAGEMENT IS THE SPIRIT OF FREQUENTIS CULTURE
Over the past decades of working in a safety-related field, Frequentis established a very strong safety culture which has resulted in, amongst other things, a dedicated system safety department. Frequentis views safety not only as the business of a few safety specialists, but rather as the spirit and part of the living culture present in all departments.
Safety management at Frequentis is a systematic process that provides ways to plan, implement and evaluate safety programs and projects. Through safety management, all opportunities to improve safety are identified, considered, implemented as appropriate, and evaluated in all phases of product and project planning, design, development and maintenance. The implemented safety strategy is optimally balanced between compliancy with the required safety standards and the investments the project entails.
