FAA Programs and NEXTGEN Activities

Over the last decade Frequentis has successfully established its place in the supply chain to our Nation’s Air Traffic Control System. With string commitment to performance and to deliver the best technology possible Frequentis has always been at the cutting edge of Technological advancements. We continuously strive to improve our processes and products to ensure that our Air Traffic Controllers are best equipped.

After holding the leadership role in international air traffic control voice communications Frequentis has worked hard to become a major supplier to the Federal Aviation Administration. Since 2004 our 3020X product has now been deployed within the Interim Voice Switch Replacement (IVSR) program at FAA tower and TRACON facilities nationwide, and since 2003 Frequentis has also supported the FAA’s Air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATCSCC) in Virginia with voice conference systems. With its move to the new ATCSCC facility in Warrenton, VA Frequentis received the contract to deliver a new command center conferencing system, which incorporates many special air traffic control functions and provides multiple layers of redundancy for high reliability. Since 2007 Frequentis contributes actively to various NEXTGEN development activities. As a consortium partner to the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Frequentis contributes extensively to the Daytona beach Nextgen Testbed with its smartStrips EFS Electronic Flight Strips system, which provides the air traffic controller with workflow support, silent hand over capability reducing the need to verbally hand over flights between sectors by 30%, and a convenient and intuitive front end for air-to-ground datalink for services such as pre-departure clearances.

Over many years Frequentis has been at the forefront of developing suitable global standards for voice communications in air traffic control. Since 2004 Frequentis has been leading the industry activities at the EURCAE Working Group 67, a committee to define a common voice-over-IP standard for air traffic management voice communications. With the adoption of this new standard by FAA the result of the WG-67 efforts has now found its way into the ICAO Aeronuatical Communications Panel (ACP).
