SESAR iCWP projects started at FREQUENTIS
December 2009: In November 2009 one of SESAR’s most ambitious topics was kicked off: through the first technical meetings the work on the iCWP - the integrated controller working positions of the future – has started. With active support of most member organisations, hosted by Frequentis in its headquarters in Vienna. iCWPs will be one cornerstone for the success of SESAR – since men and machines have to become a highly productive symbiosis to master the future demands.

FREQUENTIS successfully tests VoIP for ATS in collaboration with DSNA and DFS
December 2009:For many years, Frequentis has been a driving force behind the standardisation of voice services on IP-based transport infrastructures in civilian air traffic control. DSNA and DFS, together with Frequentis and radio manufacturers, stepped forward to assess the operational feasibility of the outcome of EUROCAE Working Group 67. A test platform was installed and configured between the two Air Navigation Service Providers sites in Toulouse (France) and Langen (Germany). Joint field trials demonstrating IP based ATC radio and telephone communications as well as legacy system integration were successfully completed in late 2009.

FREQUENTIS USA, Inc. MOVE system supports First Solid Rocket Flight Test
November 2009: Frequentis USA announces that National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA’s) new Mission Operation Voice Enhancement (MOVE) system at the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) provided mission critical voice communications for the Constellation Program’s first solid rocket flight test using the Ares 1-X rocket. The Ares 1-X flight tests brings the agency one step closer to its exploration goals – to transport astronauts to the International Space Station after the space shuttle retires and explore destinations beyond low Earth orbit.

FREQUENTIS USA, Inc. enjoys a successful ATCA 2009
October 2009: This year’s Air Traffic Control Association convention in Washington DC was fully focused on the FAA’s NEXTGEN initiatives. Frequentis recently won the contract for the FAA’s new Air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATCSCC) conference control system (CCS-W), and so showcased the newest release of its flagship VCS3020X voice switching product. The company also presented its next generation Electronic Flight Strips system (smartStrips®) and its fully-fledged AIM product suite (FR-AIS®), which is used in more than 45 countries.

NASA accepts the First Large, Fully Voice-Over-IP Based Voice Communications System Within the NASA MOVE Program at Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).
September 2009: July 31, The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) accepted the VCS3020 system for the Mission Operation Voice Enhancement (MOVE) program at Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California. The VCS3020 system at JPL is the first NASA MOVE system connecting all operator stations with Voice-over-IP (VoIP). The 3020 system increases flexibility and operational capacity, resulting in higher operational efficiency of the NASA voice controllers. JPL has an installed capacity of 442 operator stations, expandable to 663 units. “The 3020 system for the MOVE program is the first system worldwide using mission critical VoIP in a large scale. It impressively shows the maturity and scalability of the technology”, says Dieter Eier, VP of Business Development at Frequentis USA.

The VCS3020 systems replace the aging voice systems at JSC with the latest digital communication technologies such as voice-over-IP and user friendly operator positions (keysets).

August 2009: The Swiss air navigation service provider skyguide ordered the systems solutions of Frequentis for the modernisation of their new Area Control Centre (ACC) in Duebendorf. World's first fully-integrated IP radio & telephone backup VCS
August 2009: May 2009 saw the introduction of Release 6.1 of the successful Frequentis VCS 3020X voice communication system currently used by over 12,000 operators worldwide. The new release includes an integrated IP telephone & radio backup system. Frequentis has already scored a sales success for this latest version: the company will supply the approach and tower at Qatar’s New Doha International Airport with a VCS 3020X Rel. 6.1 that incorporates the new integrated IP backup application.

Four more French airports using FREQUENTIS communication technology
August 2009: The Austrian high-tech company Frequentis AG has supplied new voice communication systems to four French airports: Le Bourget, Ajaccio, Metz Nancy Lorraine and Saint Denis de la Réunion. The solutions all entered successful operation within a few months of each other.

Worldwide migration of ATM/ATC communications to Voice over IP: FREQUENTIS a major contributor
July 2009: 2009 has already been a remarkable year for proponents of Voice over IP in Air Traffic Management (ATM) communications. Half a decade has passed since EUROCAE Working Group 67 (WG-67) began developing standards for VoIP in ATM, and February 2009 saw the official release of three relevant specifications (ED-136 to ED-138). Through its research and development activities, Frequentis has contributed significantly to these documents.

FREQUENTIS to supply an integrated MET and ATIS solution for Kinmen Airport in Taiwan
July 2009: In May 2009, Taiwan’s Air Navigation Service Provider (ANWS) chose the Frequentis MET and ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information System) solution for its international Kinmen airport. Frequentis and its Taiwanese partner, Ring Line, will supply ANWS with a fully integrated meteorological system and ATIS solution. Ring Line will install its Automatic Weather Observation System, while Frequentis will supply the latest release of smartMET and smartATIS, both part of the company’s TAPtools® product family. The new systems will lead to significant increases in operational efficiency.

Frequentis SJU Press Release - FREQUENTIS helps modernise European airspace as part of the SESAR programme
June 2009: The SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU) has signed contracts marking the beginning of the execution phase of the programme. SESAR is the Single European Sky Air Traffic Management Research programme and the SJU is a unique public-private partnership founded by the European Commission and EUROCONTROL. Between 2009 and 2016, about 2 billion euros will be invested in 16 work packages and around 250 projects. Frequentis will contribute to 30 of these projects, involving some 26 million euros worth of work.

June 2009: Brussels, 12 June – The SESAR Joint Undertaking, a unique public-private partnership in air traffic management (ATM) research and development founded by the European Commission and EUROCONTROL, signed 16 contracts totalling €1.9 billion today, for the creation of Europe’s future ATM system. These contracts mark the beginning of the execution of the SESAR programme. As it serves its vital long term objective – ensuring the sustainability of European air transport – the SESAR JU is also providing continued support for the ATM sector in the short term.

Successful factory acceptance test for Bermuda’s VCS was carried out in FREQUENTIS’ Vienna headquarters
June 2009: A significant milestone was reached in the voice communications replacement project for Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport. Last year, Bermuda Air Traffic Control Service Provider BAS SERCO trusted in Frequentis for the modernisation of the L.F. Wade International Airport control tower and APP centre; now the project has reached an important milestone with the successful completion of the factory acceptance test for the voice communication system and other components of the highly reliable and functional TAPtools® family of systems. Airways New Zealand joins the global FR-AIS community
May 2009: Beginning in August 2008, Airways New Zealand, the air navigation service provider for the region in the south-western Pacific Ocean, is connected to the EUROCONTROL EAD Service. In 2000 the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation EUROCONTROL contracted Frequentis to develop the European AIS Database, in short “EAD”. Operational since June 2003, the EAD Service delivers fully validated dynamic and static aeronautical data to any subscribed user such as ATC authorities, airlines, military and commercial organisations.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines joins Europe on AIS
April 2009: The EAD service, established by 38 EUROCONTROL member states is operational since 2003 and is recently joined by more and more non European states. The contract award means that by May 2009 CAAP will be participating in one of the most advanced AIS solutions currently available in the world.

Bristol Filton Airport selects FREQUENTIS quality

Additional Frequentis VCS for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
January 2009: Frequentis has received a contract from Haji Abdullah Alireza and Company Limited (GENTEC Division). As part of the Communication Enhancement Program – II project being supplied to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) by GENTEC, Frequentis will supply the Voice Communication Systems (VCS) for the Air Traffic Control approach control and tower at Dammam and the ATC tower at Al-Jouf in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
